waimangu

In 1886, Mt Tarawera in Rotorua erupted opening the earth along a 17km rift, splitting Mt Tarawera in two, exploding Lake Rotomahana to 20 times its size, and forming the seven craters that today make up Waimangu Volcanic Valley.

Within 15 years of the Eruption, the hot springs of the Waimangu Geothermal System were established within the newly formed craters, making this the world's newest geothermal eco-system.

Today, you can enjoy a range of easy walking, advanced hiking, and boat cruise experiences ranging in duration from 45 minutes to over 4 hours.

Paradise Valley Springs

Paradise Valley Springs is a superbly presented New Zealand Trout, Bird and Wildlife park, along with a pride of African Lions.

The park is set in a beautiful native New Zealand bush setting. The circuit follows much of the Trout filled Ngongotaha Stream and low fences mean lots of interaction with our Wildlife.

Deer, Thar (goats), Wallabies, Kune Kune pigs, Giant Eels, Friendly Farm Animals, Native Birds, and more! At Paradise Valley Springs you can get up close to feed much of our Wildlife in their natural habitat.

The natural freshwater spring is called Te Waireka meaning Sweet Water. Visitors are invited to touch and taste pure New Zealand Spring Water straight from the natural Spring!

Our fantastic Elevated Treetops Walk winds through a secluded area on the edge of the Mamaku Ranges, putting you up near the canopy of the trees with our native birds.

Discover The Pride of Paradise - our Lion Pride. Their specially designed enclosure allows visitors to get very close to these wild animals. At times, we have gorgeous Lion Cubs available for patting.
